home ”EUROPEAN CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT SUCEAVA”

Between the 20th of January 2009 and the 20th of April 2009, the ANA Foundation is involved in a project financed by the European Union through the YOUTH IN ACTION Programme, Action 1 – Youth for Europe, Sub-action 1.1 – Youth Exchanges.
Called “CULTURAL STEREOTYPES” the project promotes the social integration and cultural diversity of youngsters from Europe, involving them in intercultural activities and having as main nucleus the stereotypes of each country that takes part in this project.
The organizer of this project is the ANA Foundation, Suceava.
Within the project the foundation organized between the 15th – the 24th of March 2009 an exchange with youngsters from Romania, Estonia, Spain and Italy, experience that managed to put aside all the negative aspects from each participant country, promoting aspects less known across the borders, but with a positive impact. Therefore, the experience contributed to changing the existent mentalities and to break the boundaries of stereotypes in order to create each country’s image/ culture in accordance with reality.
During the 10 days of the exchange the participants from all 4 countries had to present their informative materials of the organization they represented and about their country and actively participated at the workshops and discussions on stereotypes and at the activities within the youth exchange. This exchange managed to highlight each country’s both negative and positive aspects and to facilitate the promotion of the different cultures that were present within the exchange.

The objectives of the project are:
- Identifying the main stereotypes and prejudices that each participant country confronts with
- Supporting the mutual understanding among the youngsters from the partner countries
- Facilitating the promotion of different cultures within the project

Through this project the ANA Foundation made an aim in strengthening the participants’ knowledge degree on European citizenship, in proving the importance of getting in touch with youngsters from other countries and participating to such projects and youth exchanges. The aim of this youth exchange was to encourage the reciprocal understanding among young people from different countries in the context of European cooperation
